December 2018 STUDER Micro Series Software Update V2.0 Release Notes ============================================================= STUDER is pleased to announce the release of V2.0 software for the Micro series. This update adds a number of important new features to the desk's powerful feature set, streamlining operation and significantly increasing the on-board audio processing options. The V2.0 software update is available free of charge from the Downloads section of the Micro series product page on the STUDER website: www.studer.ch/en/products/micro-series. User Access Privileges ====================== Four levels of access are now available, allowing greater control over access to the functionality of the console: ¥ DJ access is the default logon and gives access to the operation page only for basic channel and monitoring control. ¥ Technician access gives the operator access to the Channel Options page where the processing can be enabled or bypassed. ¥ Administrator access gives the user access to the Channel Config page where the processing can be adjusted, EQ curves can be changed, dynamics levels set, etc., as well as access to a large section of the Settings page where all of the more general settings can be configured. ¥ Super User access gives the user access to everything and specifically allows the user access to configure the desk's network settings. Note: Technician, Administrator and Super User access are all password-protected with only the Administrator and Super User able to change passwords. Effects on channels =================== Two Lexicon effects engines are available in the desk for assignment onto channel input paths. The effects are stereo but will automatically work in mono when assigned to a mono channel. The effect types offered for each engine are reverb, delay and chorus. As each type of effect is chosen the relevant controls are displayed in the effects configuration page. A range of presets is available for each type of effect, along with the option for a user to store their own presets. Ducker on channels ================== A ducker is available on each of the input channels. The ducker allows the level of that channel to be reduced by another audio channel or buss. Each ducker has a range of controls that affect the amount of gain reduction and the characteristics of the gain reduction including attack, hold and release time. STUDER VoiceMix on channels =========================== Any of the mono channels in the desk can be assigned to have their level automatically controlled by the desk's VoiceMix control system. STUDER VoiceMix offers automatic fader mixing for the assigned channels, such that the total output from those channels remains constant. The VoiceMix introduces a virtual level controller to the channel to maintain this constant output. When only one channel has signal the virtual fader for the channel will be open 100% and all the other virtual faders will be closed. If 2 channels have equal levels of audio then both will have their virtual faders set at 50% (-6dB) and all other virtual faders will be closed. For 3 channels with signal the virtual faders will be set to 33.3% and so on. The net effect of this is that the coherent background noise remains constant and does not increase as more channels are used. If gates were used in place of VoiceMix then every additional fader that was opened would increase the background noise 100% as the coherent sources get summed. Each channel has a weight control that can give the channel an extra boost or cut in the VoiceMix to compensate for a significantly louder or quieter voice on that channel. For further information about the new features and instructions on updating the software, please see the Operating Instructions document available from the Micro series product page.
