Version 4.8.2.234b Service Release for Vi1, 2, 4 & 6 consoles - Release Notes ============================================================================= Soundcraft is pleased to announce the release of a software update for all Vi1, 2, 4 and 6 consoles. This update contains a significant number of bug fixes and we recommend that it is installed into all Vi1, 2, 4 and 6 consoles. Please note Vi3000 has a separate update V5.0.0.235a which has already been released. Bug Fixes --------- • Connection to Realtime Rack generated frequent lost connection messages and snapshot recall could slow down after multiple recalls (Note: Fix also requires update of Universal Audio Realtime Rack software, please download the patch here: http://www.uaudio.com/support/realtime-rack-support#patch). • Various improvements to Show compatibility of stereo busses when loading pre-V4.8 Vi4/6 shows to V4.8 desks with bus expansion (32 stereo busses) mode, or loading shows made in V4.8 with ‘non-expanded’ bus mode, on to expanded bus mode on V4.8. These include monitor mix contributions appearing on the wrong bus without panning info and problems with missing or low-level audio on one side of a stereo Aux mix after loading pre-4.8 (or non-expanded bus mode) show. • Various bugs & stability improvements in IP address setup screen (Menu-Settings-HiQnet). • Snapshot Scope on Vi1 showed more busses than the console has. • Small GEQ mode: GEQ Faders could get out of sync with frequency page when in LRC GEQ. • Bus mode switch had slow operation when bus in stereo mode. • Default Shows for Vi4 now have User Layers 1-3 pre-programmed with ‘V4.6-style’ fader bank layout Software Update Manager - (System Updater) update to V3.3.1.30 -------------------------------------------------------------- This release includes an update to the System Updater program in Vi1, 2, 4 and 6 consoles, which is the program that deals with the main software update process itself. This means that this update is a two-stage process, with two update files that have to be present on the USB stick in order to complete. Please make sure that both of the following files are downloaded from the website and are copied to the root of your USB stick. • V4.8.2.234_update_console.7z • V3.3.1.30_update_updater.zip Firmware update – IMPORTANT! (Vi1 consoles are not affected by this) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note that this update includes a firmware update which fixes a bug with fader behaviour and allows a common fader firmware with Vi3000. This update also requires a hardware change in the form of a jumper position change on the Control board behind the Master TFT screen in Vi2, 4 and 6 consoles. It is essential that this jumper change is done immediately before or after the software update, otherwise problems will be experienced with the Master bay faders jumping to unexpected values after the software update. Please see the instructions later in the bulletin on how to change this jumper. If in doubt, contact your Soundcraft distributor for advice. ***The latest release 4.8.2.234b includes a further update to this firmware (xDos29 updated to xDos30) which solves a bug which only occurs in some recent Vi2/4/6 consoles with latest version 'Vi3000-type' Vistonics control boards, which can cause freezing of certain bays or the console. Vi/4/6 consoles are very unlikely to be affected by this issue but it is advisable to update to 234b anyway.*** Where to get the software update -------------------------------- The latest software are now available on the Soundcraft website - www.soundcraft.com. Software Updates: • From the Vi1, 2, 4 or 6 product page: Scroll down the page to the 'Downloads' area and look under 'Software'. • From the Downloads Section: Go to 'Software' and select your console type. The UA Realtime Rack software update is now available from the UA website at: http://www.uaudio.com/support/realtime-rack-support#patch. Please note this is a patch and not the full software package, so if the Realtime Rack software is not already installed, you will need to download both the main installer and this patch. Note that in order to fix the connection stability issue, both the Realtime Rack and the console software must be updated. Update Instructions =================== Note that Vi1, 2, 4 & 6 currently uses a different software version to the Vi3000 which use V5.0.x, therefore therefore if you own both Vi3000 and other Vi consoles, separate USB sticks will need to be kept for each of the two software update types (or hide update files for other consoles in a folder). It is not possible to install V5.0 software onto a Vi1, 2, 4 & 6. Also note that Vi1 uses a hibernation process to allow a fast boot, this means that a specific procedure has to be followed carefully when doing a software update. Please download and read the Vi1-6 Update Instructions also available on the downloads page, before starting the update. IMPORTANT! Instructions for changing Control board jumper on Vi2, 4 & 6 consoles ================================================================================ It is essential when upgrading any Vi2, 4 or 6 console that was shipped before 1st Oct 2014, to V4.8.2.234b, that the following jumper setting is changed on the Control board located directly behind the Master TFT screen. This jumper can be changed before or after the upgrade, but note that you will experience erratic operation of the Master bay faders until the jumper has been changed, once the software update is done. Ensure power is switched off before starting the procedure. 1. Gain access to the rear of the console and remove the 9 screws securing the left-hand rear access panel (as you look at the rear of the console). Lower the rear panel to allow access to the Control boards, which are the PCBs mounted directly behind the TFT screens. 2. On the Master Bay Control Board (the right-hand of the two Control boards visible as you look at the back of console), locate the pair of jumpers labelled J2. There are two jumpers in this group, one labelled 1-2-3 the other 4-5-6. See the upper photo below for the location. 3. These jumpers will be fitted bridging pins 2-3 and 5-6. Move the upper jumper only, from the 5-6 position to the 4-5 position. Note that this change should only be done on the Master Bay Control board. 4. Close up the rear access panel and carry out the software update to V4.8.2.234 if not already done. Note: On all Control Boards other than the Master, both jumpers will already be set to the right-hand position, this is correct and does not need to be changed. NOTE: This jumper change is now being incorporated into new consoles at the factory. Consoles shipped from October 2014 onwards will already incorporate the change. This means almost all Vi2,4 or 6 consoles that were shipped between June 2006 and Oct 20014.
