Array Size Compensation

The Array Size Compensation filter is variable shelving filter designed to correct array buildup related to Line Array systems. As the length of an array increases (# of Boxes), MF/LF energy rises but HF remains the same. The standard JBL presets are engineered to work best for a specific number of boxes (around 8) but when other size systems are used, a correction must be applied to sonically balance the system.

Array buildup can be corrected with an IIR shelving filter but the shape and frequency of the filter is different for every gain step. Because of this, a traditional adjustable shelving filter is very difficult to use, especially since the values are unknown.

The Array Size Compensation filter is a shelving filter with predetermined slope and frequency values for each gain step. The only user adjustable parameter is the filter gain, with frequency and slope being pre-selected.

Crown I-Tech HD UI Implementation

The Array Size Compensation filter is included in the Crown I-Tech HD amplifiers. The filter is located at the input section next to the EQ.

When double-clicking on the Array Size Compensation icon a new window opens to allow for adjusting the filter. The filter follows the same input Y-ing path as the other input objects (delay and EQ).

Double clicking the Level control opens a new window to allow for adjusting the overall gain of the array.
