Soundweb Contrio Server Operation

To power on the Contrio server press the front panel button once. To power the unit off press the button twice.

To first connect to a Contrio Server, see the Getting Connected to a Contrio Server page here.

Linking

When a Contrio server is in the venue, the server will host all newly created links by default. However, the choice is still available to move links to other Soundweb devices.

The Contrio server enables linking of parameters between different manufacturers, as long as the two parameters maintain the same range.

Parameter Presets

When a Contrio server is in the venue, all parameter presets will be handled by the server.

Parameter presets may contain parameters from any device in the venue

When online, parameter presets can be restored. That is, values stored in an existing preset can be updated to the current values when online. However, preset cannot be created when online.

Logic

Contrio server supports the same logic objects as Soundweb London with some additions:

Scheduler

The Scheduler logic object allows adding of scheduled events from a calendar interface. New events can be added when online. Double clicking on the Scheduler logic object opens the Scheduler window where you add events in the same way as the Scheduler in the Tools ribbon. However, the only action the Contrio Scheduler offers is that the output of this logic object goes high during the scheduled event.

Self-healing

The Contrio Server Self-Healing is the ability for the server to, in the event of a device failure, recognize an identical model device and automatically configure that device with the settings of the failed device and set the new device online. It is designed to "heal" or replace settings including the IP Address, Subnet Mask, HiQnet Address, the Device Name, Firmware (for BSS devices not Crown devices), and the Audio Architect configuration file.

For example: Say while online using a Contrio Server (both the BLU and Dante versions will act identically) connected to a BSS BLU-800 device which as been configured for a small restaurant, the BLU-800 fails. Self-healing allows you to replace the failed BLU-800 with a new BLU-800, make all the proper connections and the configuration will be sent to the new device.

With a managed switch

When a device fails and a device of the same type and configuration is subsequently discovered on the same network switch port, it will configure the new device to the settings of the failed device.

Configuring a managed switch

A managed switch needs to be added to the venue (named ‘Generic switch’ located in 'Other' in the devices list to add to the venue file).

After adding a Generic Switch to the venue, associate it with your managed switch by entering the IP address of the switch in the “Bridge IP Address” section in the Properties window.

Next, the Community needs to be entered in the Properties window in the “Community String” section. See Managed Network Switch Configuration for Self-Heal.

When configured correctly, the switch should indicate online status with a green circle.

Without a Managed Switch

When a device fails and a device of the same type and configuration is subsequently discovered on the network it will configure the new device to be that of the failed device.

Disclaimers

Do not connect speaker wires to amplifiers until the self-heal process has taken place. It may take a couple minutes for the self-heal process to complete and in the meantime the amplifier may not have the proper speaker tunings in place.  This may damage your loudspeaker.

It is recommended to enable self-healing after all devices are online and addressed. This will prevent the Server from falsely trying to heal devices as new devices are being brought online and existing devices have their network settings changed.

Self-healing troubleshooting

1. Q: Self-heal didn't work - what went wrong? A: Any number of things can prevent Self-healing from operating properly including but not limited to: proper cabling, the switch not being set up properly, the devices are not the same model, Self-healing was not enabled in the Venue Options, etc.

2. Q: I can see and connect to the Contrio Server and other devices in Audio Architect, but the Server is not showing up in Dante Controller. A: Try re-starting Dante Controller and the Contrio Server.

E-mail notification

The Contrio server will send out e-mail notifications based on the rules configured in Audio Architect   File > Application Options > Event Log Messaging

When a Contrio server is in the venue file, it will constantly receive events produced by the audio devices.
